The Group acknowledges the need to balance its business sustainability with responsible environmental and social considerations which emphasise the Group’s sustainable development practices. Our sustainability journey continues with an action plan to track progress and communicate results of our ESG Goals to our stakeholders.
During the financial year, a 3-year ESG Roadmap setting out a 3-year vision for each priority topic under the four pillars i.e Governance, Economic, Environment and Social was approved.

To achieve good corporate governance based on ethics, transparency and accountability
through a comprehensive risk management strategy and strict adherence to regulations in
order to guarantee efficient business operations and safeguard the interests of important stakeholders.

ECONOMIC
To satisfy customer needs with high-quality goods and services while highlighting a
commitment to sustainability through effective supply chain management.

ENVIRONMENTAL
To reduce our carbon footprint via implementing a robust energy management
system and effective waste management. In addition, to practise responsible resource
management and move towards a more sustainable business.

SOCIAL
To establish a group of highly skilled workforce members by providing a safe, healthy and
conducive work environment and fostering positive relationships with customers and the community.
The Roadmap was designed based on the outcome of a gap analysis and was steered towards determining appropriate potential actions. It is also aligned with the 12th Malaysia Plan’s commitment to “Advance Sustainability” in the pursuit of continuous economic growth while protecting the environment. The initiatives set out in the Roadmap takes into consideration the global agenda to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all through the UN SDGs. We have identified four UN SDGs that impact our sustainability strategy where we can make the most contributions in these areas. Our focus areas for the ESG Roadmap up to 2026 are as follows:

ENVIRONMENTAL
It is our Group’s mission to continuously play our part in the conservation and protection of our environment. We are committed to minimise our environmental footprint by operating our manufacturing factories sustainably.
Energy Consumption and Efficiency
Our Initiatives
KYM has established an Energy and Water Conservation Policy to reduce energy consumption and generate savings at our headquarters and manufacturing facilities and to improve energy efficiency via various electricity-saving measures.
During the financial year, the Carton Box division has replaced its forklifts with battery operated forklifts thereby reducing its diesel consumption.
The Carton Box division also replaced its skylight roof at the production floor for better light transmission and to reduce reliance on electricity lighting and utility bills, and completed the installation of turbine roof ventilator at its factory to reduce air temperature and improve air circulation without increasing energy consumption.
The Multiwall Industrial Paper Sacks division has completed the replacement of all malfunctioning bulbs at the Tapah plant with LED lights as at the end of the financial year.
Greenhouse Gases Emission
Our Initiatives and Targets
KYM Group is committed to implementing renewable energy at our manufacturing facilities by 2024 to avoid or reduce our carbon footprint by approximately 50% of the annual scope 2 emissions by 2025. The installation of solar panels at the Beranang factory has been completed in December 2023 and the commissioning started in June 2024. The installation of solar panels at the Tapah plant has completed in June 2024.
SOCIAL
Safety at Workplace
We emphasise the need for safe working environments, regular review and access the safety of our work conditions which must meet with our corporate standards. To manage occupational, safety and health issues, we have established an Emergency Response Team and Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Committee at our manufacturing facilities in Perak and Selangor respectively. The key OHSE related activities carried out during the financial year are as follows:-

Employee Engagement
It is crucial for us to maintain the enthusiasm and motivation of our employees to promote their well-being. We continue to organise activities based on the H.U.G framework to build a cohesive and collaborative culture and lay the foundation for growth and development.
KYM felt proud in participating in the seventh Bursa Bull Charge charity run 2023 (BBC2023) – Race to Net-Zero the first time in its history. The event was held on Sunday, 8 October 2023, and took place within the Central Business District of Kuala Lumpur, starting and ending at Bursa Malaysia. The charity run focused on raising funds while creating the awareness on climate change. KYM also sent a team to participate in the Bursa Bull Charge Dance Competition, comprising 7 team members. Even though it was their first time participating in the dance competition, the KYM dance team demonstrated great showmanship and coordination. They managed to secure the 2nd runners-up position.
KYM contributed RM10,000 in support of BBC2023- Race to Net-Zero and sent a team comprising 4 runners. Our CEO Darren Lee participated in the CEO run. The CEO run was flagged off at 7.30 am followed by the corporate team for 5km run at 7.45 am. The Bursa Bull Run concluded by 8.45 am, marking an energetic start to the day’s activities.




In conjunction with Earth Day, a T-Shirt Upcycling workshop was held on 25 April 2024 in collaboration with Zero Waste Malaysia. The event aimed to inspire sustainable practices among the staff and provided a hands-on opportunity for participants to transform unwanted old t-shirts into reusable bags. The workshop inspired our staff to incorporate eco-friendly practices into their lifestyles and to make a positive impact on the planet.


The first fire and safety training was conducted for the employees at KYM Tower by Mr Palanisamy Alagapan, the Health and Safety Environmental/Security Manager of Hasrat Meranti Sdn Bhd to ensure employees know how to act safely, reducing the risk of injury or loss of life in the event of a blaze.
The attendees were briefed on the various types of fire extinguishers and usage, exposed to basic skills of fire safety and controlling small fires, followed by an Evacuation Drill and practical training on using a CO2 fire extinguisher.




From 9th to 11th August 2024, the KYM family embarked on an exhilarating journey at The Hooton Resort in Kuala Klawang, Negeri Sembilan. Guided by the experienced Mr. Alfred Netto from the Wolf Trainer was packed with activities designed to enhance strategic alignment, improve performance, and foster effective communication and teamwork among participants.
Throughout the retreat, participants engaged in a variety of interactive workshops and team-building exercises that emphasized innovation and creative problem-solving. Central to this year’s retreat was the inspiring slogan, #StrongerTogether, which encapsulated the essence of the event. The team was united in its focus on fostering collaboration, strengthening company goals, and driving forward collective success. By cultivating an environment of support and shared vision, the KYM family left the retreat more motivated than ever to tackle challenges together and contribute to the company’s continued growth and success.




In September 2024, KYM Holdings Bhd organized an informative and engaging CPR workshop for its staff, emphasizing the importance of equipping employees with essential life-saving skills that could make a critical difference in emergency situations. The workshop aimed not only to empower employees but also to cultivate a culture of preparedness within the organization.
By investing in the staff’s knowledge and skills, KYM reinforces its dedication to creating a safe and supportive work environment where staff members feel confident and capable of responding to emergencies. KYM believes that equipping its workforce with these vital skills not only enhances individual confidence but also contributes to a safer workplace, ultimately benefiting the entire organization and the community at large.
